Boat Hire in Grasmere

Why not enjoy a romantic rowing boat on gentle Grasmere?

Our rowing boats are available for hire for a maximum of one hour for up to four people (inclusive of babies and small children).

Boats are generally available for hire throughout the year subject, of course, to wind speed and prevalent weather conditions.

We don’t book boats in advance, so just turn up and we’ll be happy to help – though in busy times there may be a short wait until the next boat is available!

Buoyancy aids are available and full instructions / information on rowing technique and the mere will be given before you set off.

The last departure of the day will be one hour before closing time, though please check as our closing time can vary as the wheel of the year progresses.

Our last boat hire departs at 16:00 each day we are open and the maximum duration of each hire is one hour.

Regarding canoe/kayak/SUP launches – we are happy to facilitate this on a limited basis for which we charge a £10 launch fee (this includes parking for one vehicle within our opening hours). However, as our car park is small and our customers many, we are currently limiting this to a maximum of three launch cars at any one time. Therefore we cannot guarantee to be able to facilitate launches.

Additionally, we do not permit swimming from our premises or in our bay due to prevalence of blue green algae in the water.

Please note we presently don’t have a toilet available for customers.

Our prices are as follows:

We always require a deposit of £20 per boat plus the full fare in advance.  A £20 deposit (preferably cash for ease of return) is required for each boat hire.

No forward booking is required or accepted as we operate a ‘first come first served‘ policy.

We prefer all payments to be made by debit/credit card.

Weight limits are applicable (maximum total weight 300kg)

Please note, for the safety and comfort of all we DON’T permit dogs, duck food, alcohol or fishing equipment on or in our rowing boats.

Be aware that the island on the mere is strictly out of bounds, the boats shall not land on any shore and swimming from the boats is not permitted.
